Food photographer plays a very crucial part to introduce more customers into new restaurants or newly open cafes when it comes to creating trend on the social media platform. Therefore, we are here today to get to know Ploy Ponnit Intapaj, the photographer from the lifestyle website of BKKMENU. She will be telling us about her perspective behind the scene of every food photo.
What inspire you to become food photographer?
I think it’s mainly about my lifestyle because I see food as a part of daily life. I eat foods every day. I go to cafe and surround myself with what I’m very keen for. So, when the opportunity to work in this field came, I have taken myself into the professional scale.
What is your preferred choice in photographing between meat dish, dessert or drink?
In fact, I think that every type of foods has its on challenging and charm which requires important skills such as when photographing drinks, you will have to be very quick before the drinks melt down. Therefore, you have to be very well-prepared. You would have to think about the angle and light before the drinks are served. In case of meat dish, it’s challenging as you have to think about
the way to make people feel its taste and wanting to eat it.
Could you tell us the most impressive situation when photographing?
Mostly, it is when the restaurant informs and educates me about their ingredients such as how dedicated they are in order to get involved with farmers in order to get the safest seasonal ingredients. I am impressed when
I get to know each particular process. Knowing the history and story of each dish makes me not feeling the same. Now it becomes more than just food to me and I have to think more about how to tell the story of each dish in a more interesting way.
How does the food taste like after the shoot?
If it takes a longer time, then the food will be a little cold and tasteless. (Laughing) Sometimes, I have to ask for a favor from the restaurant to re-heat them again in order to feel the taste.
What do you think about how people these days taking food photos before and after their consumption?
I find it adorable. I like the moment when the foods are served and everyone gets impressed, trying to snap the photos. I think taking photos of what you eat and share can create little inspiration for others to come try. It can also be a personal memory for someone. People these days can be a photographer even with mobile phone or camera. However, this practice should be based on a proper manner and should not interrupt anyone.
Have you ever realized that your photos can be the aspiration to emerge new restaurants and cafes?
I personally believe that my photos may become an aspiration for people to share more food photos. From my direct experience, food photos are the source of my practice because they are something approachable since we ear them every day. Especially when restaurants and cafes these days are mushrooming, I think it’s a good thing that we can share this photographic experience throughout foods and decorations to other people. Passing on these good stories can inspire people to try taking more food photos or making people in wanting to spend their relaxed weekend over cafes and restaurants. From here, it can also help support and promote those places which can take this business to the next level.
What do you want to tell people who follow your pinned photos?
I am very thankful to be a part that can help create new passion and inspiration for others to go out and take food photos. However, this thing lies on a personal interest and the taste of individual can be very singular, so I cannot really guarantee how the food would taste like. You may have to come and try it by yourself. (Laughing)
