Agriculture based inspiration from the oversea: San Francisco

When I had a visit to the US, I went shopping at markets all the time because it is my personal interest. Moreover, I also had a chance to visit and experience the organic farming system of San Francisco.

FERRY BUILDING MARKETPLACE

When talking about the name of the Ferry Building, this can go beyond the form of water transport services. The Ferry Building is also referred to a local farmer's market that guarantees quality under the name of Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. This Ferry Building of San Francisco has a history of over 100 years.

The ferry building, built in 1898, was the center of rail transport for everyone traveling to San Francisco. In the gold rush until the 1930s, the only way travelers and passers-by arrived in San Francisco was by ferry. Passengers traveling through the magnificent two-story building area where there were internal arches and overhead skylights There were as many as 50,000 people per day.

After the opening of the Bay Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge, traveling by car became the main thoroughfare, causing the ferry route to become obsolete. The Ferry Building had been used less until the year 1955. The two-story building structure was converted into a general office space. Until finally the whole building was shut down 35 years later when Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989.

In March 2003, this San Francisco’s Ferry Building was opened to the public to visit again. After a four-year restoration, the Nave Road inside the building was renovated into a ferry building market area known as ‘The World-Class Public

Food Marke'. As of now, the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market is currently a farmer market that is certified by California and is operated by a non-profit organization named ‘Center for Urban Education about Sustainable Agriculture (CUESA)’.

This market has been widely accepted in terms of quality and variety of products that come from fresh farms as well as foods that are prepared with care provided in premium ingredients specially selected. Within the market, there are fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, meat and eggs from farmers and small farm owners most of which are certified organic. This also includes high quality organic products such as honey, olive oil, cheese, bread and coffee.

The Ferry Plaza Farmers Market is one of the leading markets in the United States. If you happen to have the opportunity to visit, please do not miss a chance to drop by for a walk and taste some fresh cooked food made fresh

and safe ingredients or you can even buy them to cook at home Every day, especially on Saturdays, both famous chefs and farmers will gather here to open markets for people to visit and come to discuss, exchange and learn

about food and cultivation. Each week, there are as many as 40,000 people visiting this market.

Having seen this, I am confident that it’s not too hard for Thailand to pull things together in order to create a marketplace that has this level of quality.
